ATHENEUM GO! GEEL GOES INTERNATIONAL

Welcome on the international page!

On this page you will read about our projects that are related to internationalization. That's why this page is in English. You will read how the story got started, and where we hope the international road will take us.

If you feel like getting in touch with the internationalisation team @GO!Geel, please contact Caroline Basyn.

What is Erasmus+?

Erasmus+ is the EU's programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe. Its budget of €14.7 billion provides opportunities for over 4 million Europeans to study, train, gain experience, and volunteer abroad.

Key Action 1 aims to encourage the mobility of students, staff, volunteers, youth workers, and young people. Organisations can arrange to send or receive students and staff to or from participating countries, as well as organise teaching, training, learning and volunteering activities. Schools can also participate in this Key Action (KA).

How did GO! Geel get involved in Erasmus+?

Our first Erasmus+ adventure started in 2016. We received funding to send 14 of our staff members to international training activities on various subjects:

Beyond Eart Orbit (Innsbruck, Austria) - Els Potters & Michiel Lamote

Bridging the gap between academia and indrustry (Palermo, Italy) - Katrien Lenaerts & Tinne De Bruyne

Creativity Lab (Attica, Greece) - Britta Arys, Jan Van Ouytsel, Karen Janssen & Jan Gys

Finnish lessons for European schools (Joensuu, Finland) - Nancy Verbeke & Tinne Van Doninck

ISE Academy (Attica, Greece) - Fatiha Baki & Els Potters

Meta learning and thinking skills (Reykjavik, Iceland) - Mart Onzia & Gilles Debie

The mobilities were really eye-openers for our staff, and they are affecting our school in such a positive way, that we were hungry for more international input. So we submitted our second application, and received a new grant in 2018 to send our staff members abroad to gain more experience in their field of expertise. To learn from our peers abroad, and to turn GO!Geel into an even richer school.

Since 2016, internationalisation has grown to be at the core of our school.

In December 2019, we will go abroad with pupils for the first time! 5BM is going to Germany to partcipate in the international project "Skills of the future". Stay tuned for more news about their adventures!
